The Lab Spaces project was a joint project between HITT's Technology and Corporate Interiors sectors to build a new DC-area headquarters for a television, internet, and phone service provider. The total project included more than 275,000 sf of office and lab space; HITT used the expertise of two teams working together to complete this fast paced project in less than 4.5 months.
HITT Technology created lab space with provisions for future expansion to a fully redundant data center should the end user choose to expand the space in the future. HITT Technology also built a new sub-grade generator pit to house two 10,000-gallon fuel-oil tanks, two 1.5-megawatt generators, and two future 2.5-megawatt generators for emergency backup power to lab spaces. HITT Technology also constructed a new 11,000-sf Network Operations Center (NOC).
A new independent power service was brought in from the power company to feed lab floors and also provide provisions for an additional service for future expansion. All major electrical and mechanical equipment including generators, the fuel system, rooftop chillers and pump package, CRAC units, UPS systems, RPPs and switchgear were all purchased and managed in-house to ensure everything met specifications and arrived on time.
HITT provided structural reinforcement of second and third floor framing to accomodate high-capacitly rack weights in data center areas and also constructed new rooftop dunnage for six 250-ton air cooled chillers (two current and four future).
