WASHINGTON D.C. – (September 12, 2002) – HITT Contracting will be honored tomorrow night, September 11, 2002, with five Excellence in Construction Awards at the Associated Builders and Contractor’s (ABC) 21st annual banquet held at the McLean Hilton Hotel in Tysons Corner, Virginia. ABC’s award program recognizes and celebrates the workmanship of those who contribute to outstanding projects built by Washington-area ABC members. ABC is the only association representing the entire construction team, from general and specialty contractors to suppliers of products and services, and industry professionals.

The law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Washington, D.C., received the best interiors ($50-$75 s.f.) award for the 335,000 square foot build-out/renovation. Together with the vision of STUDIOS Architecture, HITT opened the central core, cutting through all slabs to incorporate the use of natural light within the office via the world’s longest solar light pipe at 120 feet. This unique light feature serves as a design focal point for the multi-level layout. Covenant Life Church won the best institutional ($8 million and over) award for the 92,000 square foot addition that featured administrative offices, mezzanines, new 28-foot tall auditorium, and a main lobby area. The mezzanine woodwork features detailed cherry, oak and maple finishes. Hay Adams Hotel won the best historic restoration award for its massive historic restoration which included over 140 guest rooms featuring new marble with custom mirrors and millwork as well as suites with the complete removal and replacement of the mechanical systems. The medical renovation of TherImmune’s Toxicology Facility received the best medical renovation (over $3 million) award for its maximization of space and complex electrical work. The build-out of UBS PaineWebber in Washington, D.C. earned HITT the best interior ($35-$50 s.f.) award for its elaborately detailed interior millwork throughout as well as its two new tenant elevator lobbies with stone flooring and wood trim.

“We are honored to receive this recognition on behalf of the many hard working people that make these projects possible. It’s the collaboration of everyone that makes the projects and especially the detailed work come together and shine in the spotlight,” said Brett Hitt, Executive Vice President of HITT Contracting.
